The Ross Valley School District serves the K-8 educational needs of chidren at five school sites nestled among the beautiful wooded hills of Marin County California, about 30 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge.

ACCOUNTING ASSISTANT ? PAYROLL
SUPERVISION EXERCISED AND RECEIVED:
Under the immediate supervision of the Business Manager.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs a variety of responsible technical and clerical work involved with the processing of
District payroll including creating, updating, record keeping and tracking of all information
relative to payroll.

JOB DESCRIPTION DETAIL:
? Set up new employees in payroll system.
? Proof, code and process timesheets.
? Calculate, prepare and prove periodic payrolls as well as any corrections.
? Process retroactive payroll adjustments.
? Maintain all vacation and leave accrual records.
? Process Health and Welfare vendor and retiree invoices.
? Prepare Cal OSHA log.
? Work with Human Resources department staff to maintain benefit program
enrollment/disenrollment.
? Respond to staff/Marin County Office of Education regarding payroll inquiries.
? Prepare reports to and resolve problems with payroll-related federal and state agencies
and vendors including IRS, FTB, STRS, PERS, Medicare, social security, 403b and other
tax sheltered annuity programs, workers compensation and state unemployment insurance
programs.
? Prepare warrants for Section 125 Benefits Plan.
? Record incoming checks.
? Pick up and distribute accounts payable warrants.
? Process daily mail and maintain filing.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of:
Basic principles and practices of bookkeeping and a familiarity with general office
procedures;
Equipment and data processing information;
Proper English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation;
Methods and techniques used in employment and placement of certificated and classified
employees;
Current computer software programs.

Ability to:
Carry out assigned work without immediate supervision;
Read, understand and interpret Board Policy/Collective Bargaining Agreements and the
School?s Payroll Operations Manual;
Make mathematical calculations with speed and accuracy;
Maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work;
Compile and maintain accurate and complete records and reports;
Meet the physical requirements necessary to safely and effectively perform assigned
duties;
Maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of
required duties;
Learn and follow the practices, rules, and regulations of the District and the school to
which assigned;
Maintain the confidentiality of school related information.

EDUCATION:
High School graduate or equivalent;
Successful completion of commercial courses or five year?s equivalent business
experience plus two years of recent paid experience in business office with similar duties.

EXPERIENCE:
Previous general office and secretarial experience preferably in the area of personnel as
well as some financial record keeping experience.
